U.S. revenues from the sale of Venezuelan oil have exceeded several times the expenses of the military operation against the Bolivarian Republic, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed.

“In the first week, we got 100 million barrels of oil. We more than covered the entire attack — in fact, we earned four to five times the cost of the operation,” he said in an interview with Fox News.

On January 3, the United States launched attacks on civilian and military facilities in Venezuela, captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, and transported them to the U.S. They appeared before the Federal Court of the Southern District of New York on January 5, where they were charged with involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro and his wife pleaded not guilty.

Presidential duties in Venezuela are currently being carried out by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, who previously served as the republic’s executive vice president under Maduro.
