Israel is “crushing” the regime in Iran with growing intensity, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump warned that “an entire civilization could perish tonight,” The Times of Israel reports.

The deadline set by Trump for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz expires this evening at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.

“We are crushing the terrorist regime in Iran with increasing intensity. Yesterday, we destroyed transport aircraft and dozens of helicopters, and today we struck railways and bridges used by the Revolutionary Guard,” the Israeli prime minister said.

According to Netanyahu, “the railways and bridges were used to transport raw materials for weapons production, the weapons themselves, and militants who attack us, the United States, and countries in the region — the very militants who also oppress the Iranian people.”

He added that Israel “is not targeting the Iranian people, but seeks to weaken and crush the regime of terror that has oppressed them for 47 years.”
