Pakistan will support Saudi Arabia under a defense agreement with the Kingdom in the event of an escalation of war with Iran, reports Al Arabiya, citing a source in Pakistan’s security services.

Last year, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a joint strategic defense agreement stating that “any aggression against either country will be considered aggression against both.”

The Pakistani military condemned ongoing Iranian retaliatory attacks on Saudi Arabia, calling them “an escalation undermining peaceful efforts.”

Pakistani forces said that Saudi Arabia’s “patience and restraint,” despite Iranian “provocations,” “allowed the door for mediation to remain open,” warning that “continued attacks could close that door.”

Two Pakistani sources told Reuters that efforts to facilitate negotiations between the United States and Iran continue, despite escalating U.S. strikes and the approaching deadline set by President Donald Trump “for unleashing hell.”

Pakistan has been central to U.S.–Iran negotiations in recent weeks, acting as a key mediator to develop proposals acceptable to both sides, but there are still no signs of a compromise.

“We are in contact with the Iranians. Recently they have shown flexibility and said they could join negotiations, but at the same time they maintain a firm position as a precondition for any talks,” a source in Pakistan’s security service told Reuters.

He added that Islamabad is urging Tehran to enter negotiations without preconditions.
