The current constitution of Armenia does not allow Samvel Karapetyan, a businessman with Russian citizenship and leader of the Strong Armenia party, to become a candidate for MP or prime minister of Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government on Thursday—as he repeated his words spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.

According to the premier, the whole world knows that Karapetyan cannot be a candidate for MP or prime minister in Armenia

"If there is still a person in Armenia for whom this is still not obvious, then what can I say? I can only state the obvious," Pashinyan added.

The proportional representation list of the Strong Armenia party is headed by Narek Karapetyan. At the same time, Samvel Karapetyan's candidacy is nominated for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia. This political force expects to win the parliamentary election on June 7 and make amendments to the constitution of Armenia.
