The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has officially come into effect, but the last hour certainly hasn’t felt like an easing of tensions. In fact, it’s almost like an escalation of tension, Al Jazeera reports.

An hour before the ceasefire came into effect, Israeli fighter jets carried out dozens of airstrikes in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah continued to announce attacks on Israeli forces, both inside Lebanon and across the border. They struck a settlement where they claimed Israeli military infrastructure was located.

According to the Israeli army, in the past 24 hours, they struck 380 locations which they identified as Hezbollah targets.

Fireworks and celebratory gunfire were heard in Beirut, on Thursday evening, as well as isolated explosions throughout the Lebanese capital, especially in the coastal area, where many displaced people are still sleeping on the streets.
