The third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Friday visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan on the 111th anniversary of the Genocide.

After laying flowers at the eternal flame, Sargsyan spoke with reporters and briefly commented on the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

When asked whether a day would come when Turkey will recognize the Armenian Genocide, Serzh Sargsyan responded: “Definitely.”

When asked what the incumbent Armenian authorities have done over the past eight years for the international recognition of the Armenian genocide, the former president of Armenia noted: “On the contrary, they have done everything to prevent such a thing from happening.”

He added, however, that steps in that direction will be taken after a change of power in Armenia.

And regarding the question as to whether the current Azerbaijani-occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh was a consequence of Turkish genocidal policy, Serzh Sargsyan noted that, undoubtedly, one is a continuation of the other.
