YEREVAN. – Armenian Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) Karen Andreasyan marks one year in office on Friday. Ombudsman’s Office released a statement on this regard.

“According to the law on Human Rights Defender, the Ombudsman should release a report during the first three months about the previous year activities and submit it to the President, legislative, executive and judicial bodies, as well as media.

The Ombudsman and the staff have provided legal services to 4,596 people. Over 344 appeals out of 607 were positively solved and violated rights of people reestablished.

The Ombudsman participated in the Armenia-EU human rights dialogue in last December and touched upon the judicial system activities, freedom of speech and religion, violations in the Army, as well as the 2012 parliamentary elections,” the statement reads.
