German Armenians are preparing to hold a protest when Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Germany to receive the Steiger Award.

German-Armenian Central Council Chairman Azat Ordukhanyan issued a written statement in this regard, noting it is impermissible to give a tolerance award to Erdogan, who is known for his intolerance toward non-Muslims. “We are waiting for 97 years for Turkey to accept the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians, but Turkey has not changed its policy to date,” Ordukhanyan stated, Firat News Agency informs.   

Germany’s Free Democrats Party member Felix Halt likewise expressed his discontentment over presenting the aforesaid award to the Turkish PM. He stressed that it is incomprehensible as to why Erdogan, who does not meet with the Award’s criteria, will receive such award.
