If Turkey fails ratification of Armenia-Turkey Protocols, it will accelerate U.S. efforts on recognition of Genocide, the Director Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) Richard Giragosian stated at Dec. 3 press conference. He underlined, that in this case Armenia should also revise its foreign policy stances.

“In this case, there probably the need to revise our positions will emerge and the Armenia-Turkey relations should be established with no preconditions. Turkey respects the force only, and if we are strong and capable of speaking from the posture of strength, as if Turkey votes down the Protocols’ ratification, the international community will make a stand against Ankara,” the expert said, adding that alternatively, having the border open, there is no unambiguous telling that Armenia won.

“All depends on the price we will pay,” Giragosian reckons. In his opinion, Armenia-Turkey reconciliation will not solve Armenia’s domestic problems. “There is a March 1 issue, which is a real challenge for Armenia, in addition there are economy issues and the country needs substantial political and economic reforms,” Giragosian concluded.
