ETCHMIADZIN. – Armenia’s Etchmiadzin [Vagharshapat] city in Armavir Region celebrates its 2697 anniversary on Monday, the city Mayor Karen Grigoryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am information-analytic agency.

He also added that the celebration is organized not only for the city but for the whole Armenian people, as the Etchmiadzin is the spiritual center of all Armenians.

“We hosted this time also the UNESCO World Heritage Cities organization, as well as mayors of 15 world cities,” Grigoryan said. 

The festival of Etchmiadzin has been celebrated in Armenia since 2009.
