It became clear to everyone that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can longer remain frozen.

Influential American analyst Stephen Blank stated the aforesaid adding that the importance of resolving this conflict has increased dramatically in recent weeks, reported the Voice of America Armenian service.

Commenting on US Secretary of State John Kerry’s initiative to discuss the course of settling the Karabakh conflict, the analyst noted that the four-day war in April forced the international community to look at this matter in another way.

As per Blank, it became clear that this conflict could go off and have very dangerous consequences for the Caucasus, the Middle East, and even for Europe.

He added that if we consider the fact that Russian-American relations are in a very bad shape at present, the escalation of tension can truly have the worst consequences.

The analyst stated that the substantial strengthening of the Azerbaijani Army is another reason to negotiate, since Armenia, which previously could have afforded not to negotiate, cannot do anything like that today.

In his words, the agreement to be reached may concern the fundamental principles of the conflict, and this agreement will probably be in-depth, rather than superficial.

Stephen Blank, however, expressed concern that an agreement to be reached through Russia will not bring peace, but a new war to the region.
