YEREVAN. – The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia has convened a special session on Friday.

There is but one matter on the agenda: making an addition to the law on holidays and memorial days in the country.

The government has called for this special parliamentary sitting.

At Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the days of La Francophonie will kick off in the country on Sunday, and therefore October 11 and 12 will need to be declared non-working days; and to do this, as per the PM, an addition should be made to the aforementioned law.

In particular, a need for declaring non-working days arises when important events are held in the country, and which bring together heads of states, or governments. And in order to ensure these officials’ safety and appropriate travel in the country, usually there is a need to close off some main streets; this, however, causes inconveniences for people because traffic becomes heavy.

In consideration of the above-said, a paragraph shall be added to the said law, and according to which the government of Armenia can change working days not only in connection with holidays and memorial days, but also because of momentous events.
