The first instance court of the Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan is examining the appeal filed by owner of Fifth Channel TV channel Armen Tavadyan’s attorney regarding Tavadyan’s detention.

As reported earlier, Armen Tavadyan’s attorney Hovhannes Khudoyan had appealed to the court in regard to his client’s detention, claiming that Tavadyan’s detention is unlawful.

Yesterday Armen Tavadyan was detained under the case of Varuzhan Mkrtchyan, one of the supporters of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan. Mkrtchyan is charged with bribing a witness or victim to receive false testimony, committed by an organized group. Based on information provided by the police, Varuzhan Mkrtchyan invited to his office one of the people affected by the events of March 1, 2008 and offered the person to refuse the status of victim, refuse to testify, not appear in court and declare readiness to pay the amount that the government has to pay as compensation.

A protest is being held against the actions against Armen Tavadyan in front of the court building.
