I am very disappointed after seeing how President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian signed the bill on early retirement of judges of the Constitutional Court. This is what co-founder of National Agenda Party Avetik Chalabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The board of our political party also addressed the President of Armenia and urged him not to sign the bill and to forward it to the Constitutional Court to examine the constitutionality of the law because Article 213 of the Constitution is itself problematic since there is asymmetry between judges elected in the past and judges elected after adoption of the new version of the Constitution. Our political party believes that there shouldn’t be any difference, but this is a matter of change of the Constitution. I believe the law that the National Assembly adopted on December 12 is very problematic since it is an option for official bribe, not a systemic solution,” he stated.

Chalabyan voiced hope that none of the judges of the Constitutional Court would retire early and stressed that he would like to listen to the President explain why he signed the disputed bill.
