Russia is ready to assist in the creation of conditions for the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this at the joint news conference in Moscow with his visiting Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, after their meeting.

"We stressed the importance of steadily implementing the agreements reached by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Russian Federation on November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021. We reaffirmed the importance of the Russian peacekeeping contingent [in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh)] clearly fulfilling its mandate. We touched upon the issues discussed at the level of our leaders—including the setting up of a commission on delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the further steps to strengthen trust and stability in the border zone. An agreement in principle was reached on it in November 2021 in Sochi [, Russia]. We hope that such a commission will be set up in the very near future. In our assessment, we do not notice any obstacles on this ‘road,’" the Russian FM said.

He noted the continuation of the work aimed at the solution of humanitarian problems, and the resumption of the meetings of the working group co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan.

"Russia is ready to assist in the creation of conditions for the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. And, of course, we welcome the process of normalization of relations between Yerevan and Ankara. This should contribute to the improvement of the situation in our common region," Lavrov said.

He added that the launch of the "3+3" regional consulting platform—which includes the three countries of the South Caucasus plus Russia, Iran, and Turkey—was underlined at the aforesaid meeting.

"We have a shared opinion that this platform opens additional opportunities for all the countries of the South Caucasus. We reaffirmed our interest in our Georgian partners joining the promising format," Sergey Lavrov said.
