The officers of the Zvartnots International Airport Department of the Anti-Smuggling Department of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia, together with the employees of the passenger customs control department of the aforesaid airport, have prevented another major case of drug smuggling, Armenian News-NEWS.am learns from the SRC.
In particular, information was received that a passenger arriving from Brazil to Armenia on the Sao Paulo-Paris-Yerevan flight may be carrying cocaine.
Upon arrival in Armenia, Brazilian citizen L. P. underwent a personal customs inspection at Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport. Suspecting that this person might be hiding drugs in his body, he underwent a visual examination. As a result, foreign objects were noticed in his body; and in order to remove them, this Brazilian national was taken from the airport to a medical center.
As a result of a scan performed at the aforesaid medical center, it was found that there were spherical foreign objects in his large intestine, and they were removed from his body with medical intervention.
A total of 120 oval capsules of cocaine were found in his body, and they weighed a total of 1,216 grams. The market value of this amount of cocaine exceeds $300 thousand.
Criminal proceedings have been launched into this incident.
This Brazilian citizen was first detained and then arrested.
The officers of the SRC Anti-Smuggling Department are continuing the measures to find out the scope of other possible persons involved in this case.
