YEREVAN. – New details are ascertained on Saturday morning’s robbery at a Haypost Company post office branch in Armenian capital Yerevan.

A person wearing a mask had entered the branch and, threatening with a knife, stole more than 27 million drams (US$ 70,692), a Haypost Central Branch employee, who wished to remain anonymous, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

According to the employee, there were three female workers at the branch at the time. The unidentified person kept the knife on them and took the bag full of money. As a result, a worker’s hands were scratched. As per the employee, even though only the robber’s eyes were discernable, he probably was a young man.

The police are searching for the robber.   

There were no security personnel when the robber entered the post office, but Haypost’s video cameras recorded what transpired and the police took possession of the recording. 

The employee also informed that there used to be a security officer on the day when the pension payment amounts were brought in, but since no incidents had ever occurred, they no longer had a security officer.

And in the employee’s words, from now on Haypost’s branches will be overseen by police officers and video cameras.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, an unidentified person holding a knife robbed a Haypost Company post office branch, in Armenian capital Yerevan’s Arabkir Administrative Region, on Saturday morning, and stole 27,117,000 drams (US$ 71,000), Arabkir Police Precinct Chief Artur Mehrabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “No one was hurt. Only one person entered [the branch] and, threatening with a knife, took the money and left,” Mehrabyan stated.  

To note, a person wearing a mask had entered a Haypost branch in Yerevan’s Nor Nork district, on Wednesday, and stolen 1,354,000 drams ($3,545) and escaped. An investigation was launched to identify and find the robber. Also, the Police Force Investigation Department had launched a criminal case on charges of robbery, Police Force Press Service had informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
