The police of Russia’s Chechen Republic are investigating Armenian businessman Areg Shchepikhin—who was kidnapped at a Moscow railway station Tuesday and stuffed into the trunk of a car—Chechen Minister of National Policy Akhmed Dudayev informed on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.

According to him, the investigation into Shchepikhin is being conducted on the basis of “public actions aimed at offending the religious feelings of believers, and actions aimed at humiliating the dignity of a group of people, their nationality and religious feelings.”

Dudayev claims that Shchepikhin openly, publicly, and repeatedly called for ethnic cleansing and Nazism, insulted religion and God, expressed clear extremist views, and declared his intention to rape young children.

The aforesaid Chechen minister added that Shchepikhin was “not kidnapped, but was detained by law enforcement officers who are collaborating with the relevant authorities in Moscow.”

Areg Shchepikhin was kidnapped Tuesday evening at a Moscow railway station. According to footage provided by eyewitnesses, several men in civilian clothes grabbed him and, holding his hands and feet, took him out of the aforesaid railway station building, after which he was shoved into the trunk of a car with flashing lights and license plates associated with the Chechen authorities.

According to the Baza Telegram channel, 20 minutes before his kidnapping, Areg Shchepikhin was demanded to make a video in which he apologizes.

Moscow police had stopped the car in which Shchepikhin was taken, but soon released the alleged kidnappers.

According to the Shot Telegram channel, three of the detainees told the police that they worked for the Russian National Guard.
