The process of equipping frontline military positions of Armenia with new and modern equipment continues. Defense Minister Suren Papikyan stated this during Thursday’s National Assembly session debates on the 2026 state budget draft.

The defense minister noted that this significantly increases the safety of Armenia’s servicepersons on combat duty as well as the overall security of the country’s state border. “The expansion of military-technical ties and the diversification of armaments are among the main directions of Armenia’s security architecture. And it is within this logic that the work aimed at modernizing the Armed Forces continues,” Papikyan said.

According to the defense minister, the local military industry is also at the center of the Armenian Ministry of Defense’s attention. “In 2022, we signed contracts, amounting to about 5.5 billion drams, with enterprises of the local military-industrial complex. As a result of contracts signed over the following three years, that amount has reached 171 billion drams,” Suren Papikyan said.

Also, the defense minister emphasized that Armenia will use its weapons and its army for only one purpose: to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
