The Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia on Friday resumed Thursday’s meeting on the matter of revoking the electricity distribution license of Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), a company belonging to the Tashir Group of companies.

As reported earlier, the ENA supervisory committee on Tuesday had warned the Armenian authorities against such a decision, and called it a forcible seizure of the company “for which the [Armenian] public will pay.”

Today’s meeting is being held in a quite tense atmosphere.

Former ENA director Davit Ghazinyan asked commission chairman Mesrop Mesropyan why the police were present at the meeting, and whether the commission members saw any danger.

Also, Ghazinyan demanded that the police leave the meeting hall.

The Tashir Group belongs to Russian Armenian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, who is jailed in Armenia on charges of calling for a coup d’état in the country. Karapetyan and his supporters, however, deny these accusations, and describe the respective actions of the Armenian authorities as persecution.
