YEREVAN. – According to the environmentalists, who are protesting for already several days at Armenian capital Yerevan’s Mashtots Park against the carrying out of construction there, the provocations have exacerbated.

Several dozen police officers gathered at the Park, on Friday morning, and, with their assistance, the workers tried to resume construction.

There were a mere ten demonstrators at the time, but new groups joined them very quickly.

They did not allow the concrete-mixing machine to continue its operations, Armenian News-NEWS.am’s reporter informs from location.

The police, on the other hand, note that the City Hall’s decision to carry out construction at the Park is valid, and since the number of demonstrators exceeds one hundred, they must receive a written permit from the City Hall to hold their protest.

In their turn, the demonstrators note that they will not allow illegal construction at the Park.

Two civil initiatives as well as environmentalists recently met with Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, concerning this matter, but they did not reach an agreement.
