If the parliamentary elections in Armenia were to take place next Sunday, 34 percent of the Armenian voters would vote for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, a research conducted by the Gallup reads.

1,018 people were asked which party they would vote for if the elections were to be held next Sunday; 34 percent mentioned Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), 28 percent would vote for Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), 9 percent for opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), 6 per cent for Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law), 5 per cent for Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), 3 per cent for Heritage Party and 2 per cent for Armenia’s Communist Party, while 10 per cent will not vote for any party.

When asked whom they would give their second vote, the voters mentioned: PAP (22 percent), RPA (17 percent), Orinats Yerkir and Heritage (6 percent), ARF (5 percent).

When asked which party they would never vote for, 36 percent of voters mentioned ANC, 12 percent Orinats Yerkir, 11 percent RPA, 9 percent Heritage, 7 percent ARF, 5 percent PAP.

Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.

For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%.
The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
