YEREVAN. – Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, who is in Japan on an official visit, on Wednesday met with Speaker Takahiro Yokomichi of the Japanese House of Representatives. 

The interlocutors congratulated one another in connection with the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between both countries, and recorded that Armenian-Japanese relations have developed over these years, the President’s Press Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Takahiro Yokomichi expressed a hope that President’s Sargsyan’s visit to Japan will become new impetus for developing relations, deepening cooperation, and strengthening interparliamentary ties between the two countries.     

Also, Yokomichi thanked Armenia’s President for visiting Japan’s earthquake- and tsunami-ravaged area on the first day of his trip to Japan. He noted that Japan has not forgotten Armenia’s assistance rendered after this catastrophe, and extended his gratitude to the Armenian people who likewise have experienced such great disaster. 

In his turn, President Serzh Sargsyan stressed that Armenia wishes to develop ties with Japan, and thanked Japan for its assistance to Armenia.  

Sargsyan and Yokomichi also underscored Armenia’s and Japan’s cooperation within international organizations.  

They expressed a conviction that the interparliamentary ties will further consolidate once the Armenia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group is formed in Armenia’s new National Assembly.

In Tokyo, Armenia’s President also visited the Toshiba Science Museum on Wednesday.
