YEREVAN.- Presidential candidates and high ranking officials continue visiting Paruyr Hayrikyan who was wounded in the chest on Thursday.

Presidential candidate Hayrikyan was attacked near his home in the center of Armenia’s capital and hospitalized with a gunshot wound in the right clavicle.

Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, Health Minister Derenik Dumanyan, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Galust Sahakyan, presidential candidate Rafii Hovannisian, head of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan and other officials have already visited him in the hospital (photos).

“This attack was directed against our statehood. I am confident the law enforcers will do their utmost to solve the case,” Abrahamyan emphasized. As to providing other candidates with security guarantees, he said the issue was discussed yesterday and state agents will make a decision.   

A criminal case is opened in connection with the assassination attempt against Armenia’s presidential candidate, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan.
