YEREVAN. – Armenian government will not approve Prosperous Armenia Party’s legislative initiative proposing to raise minimum wage from AMD 45,000 to 75,000 starting from the next year.

The initiative proposed by Naira Zohrabyan, Mikael Melkumyan, Stepan Margaryan and Vahe Hovhannisyan, was included in the agenda of the August 29 meeting of the government.

The government concluded that increase in the minimum wage corresponds to its policy. Moreover, the government’s program for 2012-2017 suggests doubling minimum wage and bringing it to 70,000.

However, the government does not consider appropriate a sharp increase in the minimum wage.
