YEREVAN. - The officers representing art in Armenia met the Armenian translation of “Ulysses” by James Joyce with complete indifference.

Chairman of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and its faction leader Naira Zohrabyan said the aforementioned in the parliament today at the discussion of the bill on establishing the title of honored constructor.

In her words, there are dozens of talented people in Armenia who don’t strive for any official titles, but are at the same time the pride of our science and art.

Among them, according to her, is the artist Arthur Sarkissian, whose painting was auctioned off in Sotheby’s several years ago.

“Besides, I’d like to mention the translation of the novel by Joyce, which was made by Samvel Mkrtchyan. I’m not speaking about him because of my self-interest (Zohrabyan is Mkrtchyan’s widow). Translators dared to translate the world described by Joyce into 23 languages. Samvel Mkrtchyan was one of them. However, this work received complete indifference. What else should we expect?” she added.
