YEREVAN. – Second meeting of the Armenian-Lebanese Intergovernmental Commission will be convened in the Lebanese capital city of Beirut.

The aforementioned was noted at Friday’s talk between newly appointed Armenian Ambassador Samvel Mkrtchyan, and Prime Minister Tammam Salam of Lebanon.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that, first, the Lebanese PM congratulated the Armenian ambassador on his appointment, and wished him productive work aimed at the strengthening and development of bilateral relations.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan, in turn, stressed the high-level political relations between the two countries and their effective cooperation in the international arena, and underscored the need for expansion of trade and economic ties.

Also, the Lebanese side was presented the prospects for making investments in Armenia and, considering its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union—which also comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—, entering other markets.

In addition, the interlocutors highly praised the active role of the Armenian community in Lebanon, in the development of the country and strengthening of bilateral relations.

Furthermore, Ambassador Mkrtchyan informed PM Salam about the various events that are planned for this year in Lebanon, and on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.

On the same day, Ambassador Samvel Mkrtchyan also met with Lebanese Minister of Labour Sejaan Azzi.

They reflected on Minister Azzi’s participation in the second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide, which was held on April 23 in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, and his talks with the Armenian senior officials.

The Armenian diplomat and the Lebanese minister also discussed the prospects for expansion of the existing legal framework, and the making of respective markets accessible for the workforce of both countries.
