YEREVAN. - The possibility of a new escalation in the Karabakh conflict zone has currently reduced as compared with last year and this April.

Publicist Denis Dvornikov, who is also a member of the Russian Association of International Law, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Asked what the possibility of a new escalation in the Karabakh conflict zone is after the constitutional referendum in Azerbaijan, Dvornikov noted: “I think the possibility here depends not so much on the constitutional referendum as on quoted oil prices, since ‘Karabakh’ project per se is an inter-political tool for Azerbaijan. First of all, it is a tool, which helps distract the attention of the republics’ population from social and economic problems.”

According to the publicist, when social and economic problems emerge in Azerbaijan, militarist rhetoric is turned on, possibly with certain restricted actions.

“On the other hand, I think that the demonstration of Iskanders served as a good ‘cold shower’ for the military leadership of Azerbaijan,” Denis Dvornikov stressed. But, in his words, this doesn’t mean that one should loosen up.   “It is necessary to always be ready and take into account the mistakes made during the April events, including in terms of flaws,” Dvornikov concluded.
