YEREVAN. – The EU attaches great importance to signing the comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement with Armenia, head of the EU delegation in Armenia Piotr Switalski said during conference on prevention of corruption that was organized by EU and the Council of Europe.

As the ambassador noted, both organizations – the EU and the Council of Europe make efforts to assist in strengthening of effective governance, which also extends to fighting corruption and strengthening the judiciary. According to the Ambassador, the implementation of GRECO recommendations is an important part of the work and a serious contribution to the development.

 Switalski stated that over the past months Armenia has taken a number of important steps in the fight against corruption and the development of legislation. The EU and the CE welcome this, but they state the beginning of the stage when the improvement of legislation should be tested in practice.

The EU attaches importance to signing the Agreement on Friday, the ambassador said adding that  all interested parties and society will be able to witness the new quality of fighting corruption.
