YEREVAN. –  Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA) Chairman Ara Babloyan on Monday received Bradley Busetto, United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Armenia..

First, Babloyan highlighted the effective cooperation e between the RA National Assembly and the UNDP, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Also, the RA parliament speaker touched upon the ongoing reforms in human rights, democracy, fight against domestic violence, and several other domains in Armenia.

In addition, Ara Babloyan stressed the importance of passing to the system of parliamentary governance, the law amendments to be made, and the expansion of parliamentary oversight.

Talking about the transparency of parliamentary activities, chairman of the RA National Assembly stressed the participation of the civil society in the law-making, and the importance of raising public awareness.

Touching upon the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative being implemented by the UN, the head of Armenia’s parliament emphasized the participation of the RA National Assembly in the respective activities.

Furthermore, the RA NA speaker lauded Armenia’s continued cooperation with UNICEF, and expressed the hope that cooperation between the RA NA and the UNDP also will be continuous and effective.

Busetto, for his part, attached importance to cooperation with the RA National Assembly. He noted that the UNDP aims at raising the efficiency of the legislative and oversight activities of the Armenian parliament.

Also, he spoke about the capacity building of the RA National Assembly, transparency of the implementation of its key functions, and accountability and participation of the civil society in parliamentary processes.

At the end of the talk, the interlocutors reflected on the successes recorded by the UNDP, and the initiatives aimed at capacity building of the RA National Assembly Staff.
