Speaking to Bild newspaper, German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas stated that the European Union (EU) needs to defend its interests when the US is imposing sanctions and new trade-customs duties.
At the same time, Maas said he is enraged by US President Donald Trump’s attitude towards Europe, as well as Russia and China—as opponents.
Nonetheless, the German FM stressed that friendship with the US is based on the values of democracy and freedom—not presidents.
