YEREVAN. – A court in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, on Tuesday is examining the matter of extending the period for former ranking security official—and former head of security of third President Serzh Sargsyan—Vachagan Ghazaryan being remanded in custody.

Ghazaryan had been remanded in custody. But, subsequently, he was released on a 1bn-dram (approx. $2,100,000) bail. The prosecutor’s office, however, appealed this decision and, as a result, a decision was made to remand him in custody yet again.

The Special Investigation Service had informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that, on June 27, criminal charges were filed against Vachagan Ghazaryan, and for withholding—in his asset declaration submitted to the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials of Armenia—the information on the true amount of his funds, as well as for getting enriched illicitly.
