YEREVAN.- As expected, Nikol Pashinyan deceived Alaverdi’s voters during the election campaign. The spokesman for the Republican Party of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, told reporter on Friday, commenting on the information that a large number of former Alaverdi copper smelter workers are expected to emigrate from Armenia in the spring of 2019.

According to him, now that the Republican Party of Armenia is not the ruling force, the responsibility lies with the political team of Nikol Pashinyan.

“I suggest Pashinyan again to go to Alaverdi and repeat the statement that the plant (Alaverdi copper smelter - ed.) will work. Our party has talked about the serious consequences of the closure of the plant over the past 9 months. In response, there were thoughts that Sharmazanov wants to attract opposition-minded employees of the plant to his side. Now the power is in their hands, let 630 people decide the issue of employment, ”he stressed.

Emigration of former employees of the Alaverdi copper smelter will lead to a multiplicative effect.

“As a result of the fact that more than 600 families will not receive money, the cash flow in the city will decrease, which will have a negative impact on the socio-economic situation of Alaverdi as a whole,” concluded Edward Sharmazanov.
