After several weeks of mass protests, the current president of Algeria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, approved the formation of a transitional government. The Cabinet will be headed by ex-interior minister Nureddin Bedui, DW reported referring to APS states news agency.

According to the source, the former special envoy of Algeria to the UN Sabri Boukadoum was appointed the head of the foreign ministry of the North African country.

Ahmed Qaed Saleh, Deputy Defense Minister, maintains his post, who on March 26 demanded the resignation of the 82-year-old head of state. The Lieutenant-General said that the time had come to use Article 102 of the Algerian Constitution.

This paragraph of the Basic Law allows the country's constitutional council to declare the presidency vacant if the head of state is unable to fulfill his duties.

The next day, the Acting Prime Minister of Algeria, Ahmed Ouyahia, made a similar request.

In the North African country, the largest protests have continued for several weeks since the Arab Spring of 2011. At first, their participants opposed the alleged fifth presidential term of 82-year-old Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Hundreds of people were injured during the protests.
