Businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan underwent surgery for the fourth time in Germany at the beginning of February, Mayrapetyan’s lawyer Karen Batikyan told Armenian News- NEWS.am, adding that it is still unknown when his client’s treatment will end. The timing of his return to Armenia is also unknown. 

Earlier it was reported that the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia granted the petition by the legal defender of Samvel Mayrapetyan and permitted the businessman to leave the country.

On January 17, the European Court of Human Rights instructed the Armenian government to urgently ensure medical assistance corresponding to Samvel Mayrapetyan’s health condition, and in accordance with respective instructions by physicians.

Mayrapetyan was remanded in custody on charges of mediation to bribe-taking, and a criminal charge was brought against him.

He is also the owner of a TV company in Armenia.
