Armenia has faced serious environmental problems, ex-Minister of Ecology, Advisor to the Director of the Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia Sarkis Shahazizyan told reporters on Thursday.

According to him, the problems are associated with the destruction of the country's forests, which can lead to a decrease in water resources, as well as temperature increase, desertification, and inefficient water resources management.

Shahazizyan noted that instead of repairing the irrigation system in order to avoid water losses in Lake Sevan, we constantly release water from the lake, which leads to serious consequences.

The expert noted that it is also necessary to solve the issue of the sewer system since this problem still exists in Armenia otherwise we may face contamination of groundwater.
