General Mark Milley said that despite the limited US military presence in Syria, it is important to continue to monitor the activities of the ISIS terrorist organization, The Guardian reported.

Milley told ABC’s This Week: “There will be less than 1,000 [troops] for sure. And probably in the 500-ish frame. Maybe 600. But it’s in that area. But we’re not going to go into specific numbers because we’re still going through the analysis right now.”

Commenting on the level of US military presence after the call of President Donald Trump to withdraw troops from northern Syria, the general noted that more than 500 US troops will remain in this region.
