Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan isn’t rushing to comment on the dismantling of the plaque dedicated to Garegin Nzhdeh in the Russian city of Armavir.

Responding to a question about press releases of the mass media in regard to the dismantling of the plaque during a press conference today, the minister stated that the Armenian community of Armavir had issued a press release stating that the plaque was dismantled for repair works.

According to Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, at the moment, all this seems strange and there is a need for more complete information in order for him to comment. The minister added that the Armenian side is working on receiving information. He also mentioned that the plaque was placed in the premises of the local Armenian church. “The State and church are distinguished. I am careful in my commentaries. I wouldn’t like to see this issue in the context of the right of religious minorities,” the minister concluded.
