YEREVAN. – The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) links the criminal case brought against the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, to foreign and domestic political fermentations and developments. RPA Deputy Chairman Armen Ashotyan said this at a press conference today.

"If we go by the logic of the four elements, then if [2nd President Robert] Kocharyan's case is 'water,' the case against Serge Sargsyan is 'air,'" he said. "We will look forward to the judging of history."

According to Ashotyan, it is no accident that the indictment against Serzh Sargsyan had an "information bomb" effect on political, public, and information circles.

"It can have no negative impact on the internal and external political activities of the RPA," he added. "Let me say more, the case and indictment against Mr. Sargsyan is speeding up the anti-Nikol [i.e., PM Nikol Pashinyan] consolidation processes."
