YEREVAN. – The new Criminal Code envisages a transition from the punishment system to the rehabilitation system by the introduction of new types of penalties and the enhancement of the effectiveness of existing penalties, in line with the logic of combating corruption. It is envisaged to include a list of corruption crimes in the Criminal Code. Armenia’s Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan said this at the December 12 public debate on the Criminal Code.

He emphasized that in addition, it is envisaged to extend the timeframe for the statute of limitations for being excused from criminal liability, the efficiency of the institute of being excused from criminal liability, and to provide special mechanisms for minors.

"Comprehensive discussions were held on the reforms of the Criminal and Penitentiary Codes, taking into account the opinions of the various parties," the Minister noted. "We hope that they will be discussed in the parliament in spring."

Badasyan added that the criminal law reflects the system of values of a given country.
