The verdict is announced on January 28, 2020 to former US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Trump National Security Officer Michael Flynn, US District Judge in Washington, Emmet Sullivan said in an order.

The sentencing is scheduled for January 28, 2020 at 11am, the text said.

The verdict has been postponed several times. It was originally scheduled for December 18, 2018.

The case is being considered within investigation of the interference attributed to Russia in the US presidential election in 2016. Last February, Flynn was forced to resign due to the fact that he did not fully inform Vice President Mike Pence of his conversations with Sergey Kislyak, who at that time was the Russian ambassador to the US.

Trump and his key assistants have repeatedly denied suspicions of any unlawful contacts with Russian officials during the 2016 election campaign. Moscow has also repeatedly denied allegations of attempts to influence the course of the US presidential election.

In 2016, special prosecutor Robert Mueller was engaged in an investigation of alleged attempts to intervene in the American electoral process in Russia for about two years. On April 18, the US Department of Justice released its final report, in which Mueller admitted that the investigation did not reveal Trump's collusion with Moscow. He argued that Russia tried to influence the course of the presidential election campaign.
