On December 19, Armenia’s National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan received the delegation headed by Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Russian Federal Council Committee on International Affairs.

Mirzoyan emphasized that the centuries-old friendship and brotherhood links the Armenian and Russian peoples, and that the Armenian-Russian relations are of strategic nature. He noted that the key direction of the relations between the two countries is the inter-parliamentary cooperation, where he distinguished three platforms: cooperation of the parliamentary committees, joint sitting of the standing committees, and effective cooperation on the international parliamentary platforms. The NA Speaker underlined that the problems arising on these platforms should be solved by joint efforts, and also noted that they expect the support of their Russian colleague in the selection of the candidates nominated by Armenia in several international bodies.

Kosachev added to the three areas of cooperation mentioned by Mirzoyan, periodic contacts at the level of parliamentary leaders, which are impetus in the context of the implementation of the agreements reached.

He noted the high level of cooperation with Armenian colleagues, and emphasized that the work continued without interruption after the change of power and the change of parliament in Armenia.

He noted that Russia cooperates with Armenia on 7 international platforms, which is a record number. Konstantin Kosachev assured that Russia is ready to support the candidates nominated by the Armenian National Assembly in international structures.
