The court of general jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan has ended examination of the appeal against the arrest of owner of Fifth Channel TV Company Armen Tavadyan. This is what Armen Tavadyan’s attorney, Hovhannes Khudoyan told journalists today.

The attorney also informed that the investigator of the Special Investigation Service has filed a motion for detention.

“At the moment of examination of the appeal against arrest, the investigator of the Special Investigation Service filed a motion to select detention as a pre-trial measure. According to Armenian legislation, two issues need to be examined under one procedure. I asked the court for time to become familiar with the materials and understand the substantiations that are presented,” he said.

Tavadyan is under arrest and is suspected of bribing a witness or victim for a false testimony, committed by an organized group.

Varuzhan Mkrtchyan, a supporter of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, is also charged within the scope of the same criminal case. Based on a video prepared by the Police of Armenia, Mkrtchyan had offered a person affected by the events of March 1, 2008 money and later a high position, if the person refused to testify. A signature to not leave the country has been selected as a pre-trial measure for Mkrtchyan.
