World Day of Peace is a celebration of the Roman Catholic Church, which is marked on January 1 of each year. Pope Paul VI established it in 1967.

For Catholics, this holiday is called World Day of Prayer for Peace. It is celebrated on the first day of each New Year.

On December 17, 1969, the UN General Assembly declared the World Day of Peace an official holiday, during which believers ask God to stop all wars and bring peace to Earth, Calend reports.
