YEREVAN. – At today's Cabinet meeting of the government, a decision was made whereby organizations with the intent to carry out slaughterhouse activities in Armenia could get respective funding for up to 8 years at an 11% interest rate, of which 7% would be subsidized by the government.

Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan noted that there are currently 38 slaughterhouses in Armenia, 20 of which belong to large companies and serve only them, whereas 18 slaughterhouses slaughter the villagers’ livestock. According to him, the construction of another 24 slaughterhouses is underway.

At the request of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, government members explained what a person who wants to engage in the slaughterhouse business in Armenia should do. But it turned out that the criteria that slaughterhouses must meet in the country are still unclear.

"It turns out that we are funding people to build a slaughterhouse, but are we will just begin to set the standards?" Pashinyan asked. "That’s not good."

Tigran Khachatryan responded that within three weeks they will bring and present all the respective changes that will be defined.
