YEREVAN. – A Yerevan court of first has denied the motion by the attorney of Karen Khachatryan—the nephew of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) former chairman and ex-Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan—to release his client on bail. Khachatryan's legal defender Amram Makinyan told about this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The Court of Appeal had overturned a Yerevan court of first decision to release defendant Karen Khachatryan on a 20mn dram bail.

Makinyan stressed that such a decision was expected for him. "One should be at least naive not to realize that the decision will be made in favor of the body conducting the criminal proceedings."

Karen Khachatryan was the head of the SRC Department of Homeland Security, and he is accused of committing a large amount of misuse of funds.

His uncle, Gagik Khachatryan, is also charged in this criminal case. The motion to commute his current pretrial measure of arrest is currently being considered in court.
