The death toll from coronavirus in the US has reached six, health officials said.

The American authorities are preparing for an increase in the number of infections, focusing on expanding the capabilities for testing, Voice of America reported.

Vice President Mike Pence has said coronavirus-related risk levels for Americans remained low.

Earlier in the day, two senior officials reported that the Donald Trump administration was investigating the appropriateness of issuing a state of emergency declaration to help states and municipalities recover costs of coronavirus control measures. At a meeting with pharmaceutical company executives, President Donald Trump has announced he was also considering introducing new entry restrictions for countries most affected by the virus.

As of Sunday, the number of confirmed and suspected cases in the US has increased up to 91, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted.

Without going into details, Trump said his administration had asked pharmaceutical companies to expedite the development of a coronavirus vaccine. Representatives of the American health care system said up to 18 months needed to develop a vaccine. However, there is no treatment for this respiratory disease, although patients may receive symptomatic treatment.
