There is still low participation of prisoners in certain types of activities in Armenia, but the government is planning to engage the min several new actions, including digitization. This is what Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan said in response to deputies’ questions during the discussion on the report on performance of the 2019 State Budget held as part of the joint session of parliamentary standing committees today.

According to the minister, the Ministry of Justice has explored the work of the “Support to Prisoners” Foundation and found out that the Foundation isn’t carrying out the activities for the purposes that are prescribed.

“The Foundation was supposed to provide certain services at penitentiary institutions, but at prices lower than the market prices and with the involvement of convicts in the activities. There has been low participation of convicts, and this has sparked some concerns in regard to market prices,” Badasyan said.
