The European Court of Human Rights today rendered a decision regarding the case of Kommersant and others vs Russia. The decision states that Boris Nemtsov has won the case against Yuri Luzhkov, reports TASS.

The case concerns inquest into the research report “Luzhkov: Results” which Nemtsov had published with Vladimir Milov in 2009. In this regard, Kommersant had published an article written by Maria-Luiza Tirmaste. After reading the article, Luzhkov filed a lawsuit to defend honor and dignity, and the Russian court confiscated 500,000 rubles from Nemtsov, Tirmaste and Kommersant.

However, considering the complaint submitted on Tuesday, judges of the ECHR agreed that, in this case, Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (Freedom of Expression). The court ruled that Russia is obliged to pay, within a three-month period, EUR 20,800 to Zhanna Nemtsova, who represents her father’s interests in the case.
