YEREVAN. – The applicants who were not admitted to universities and their parents are again in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, and they continue their protest.

The Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports from the scene that some of these protesting applicants are wearing military uniforms.

"We urge our government not to break our courage, so we can go to the army with courage," one of these applicants told reporters.

At the moment, the applicants are singing patriotic songs outside the aforesaid ministry, and the police have set up a human wall in front of these applicants.

Earlier in the day, these applicants and their parents gathered in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, and demanded a meeting with Minister Arayik Harutyunyan. The minister, however, did not come down from the ministry building for a meeting, after which the protesters blocked the street across and staged a sit-in. Subsequently, the special police forces apprehended several protesters, who were later released.

To note, these applicants who were not accepted to universities and their parents are protesting, complaining about the results of the university entrance exams and the new approach of the education department. Accordingly, numerous applicants with lower scores were accepted to universities, whereas many applicants with higher scores were not accepted, as the applicants’ selected profession was underscored this year, and therefore priority was given to those who selected a given profession as their first choice, rather than to those with high scores in any subject.
